The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been moving in all sorts of interesting directions since the exciting conclusion of Avengers: Endgame. The 2019 blockbuster brought the MCU’s “Infinity Saga” to a close, and with it, the death of original MCU superhero Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man. Now, however, Robert Downey Jr. has offered a positive statement regarding a MCU return.
Robert Downey Jr., as Iron Man, successfully kills Josh Brolin’s Thanos during the climax of the film. It’s a moment that had fans cheering and crying. After all, the 2008 film Iron Man jumpstarted the massive superhero franchise. With more than a decade leading into Avengers: Endgame, it was definitely an earned moment.
Nevertheless, with so many new superheroes being introduced in both film and television, many fans are eager for Robert Downey Jr. to make a return to the MCU. As the franchise explores the Multiverse in addition to other avenues that could more than easily resurrect a character like Iron Man, it certainly wouldn’t be hard to do.
Now, as shared in an interview with Esquire, Robert Downey Jr. comments on the possibility. Excitingly enough, he appears to be completely open to the idea. Here’s the positive statement delivered by Downey:
“Happily. It’s too integral a part of my DNA. That role chose me,” he shared. “And look, I always say, never, ever bet against Kevin Feige. It is a losing bet. He’s the house. He will always win.”
It’s rather wholesome to know that not is he willing to return, but that he considers the role part of his DNA. Many fans feel like his role as Iron Man was perfect casting. Especially given Downey’s career and life at that point in time. In the same way that Downey helped launch the MCU, the success of Iron Man also made a number of positive changes in his own life.
Of course, this isn’t an official confirmation that Downey will make a return as the character. But with his willingness to do so, hopefully they find a satisfying way to someday make it happen at Marvel Studios. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates as we have them.
