The superhero genre has expanded in so many ways since this popular superhero show first premiered. Now, years later, it looks like the 2006 superhero hit is set to receive the reboot treatment with a brand-new show.
As per a recent report, the reboot of the beloved 2006 superhero drama series is described as “a fresh incarnation.” The project is currently in the process of being pitched to potential buyers. Encouragingly, rather than opting for a remake or a complete reimagining, it will serve as a sequel set after the events of the original series.
Here’s what Deadline was able to share regarding the new project‘s plot as written by the original show’s creator Tim Kring:
“Written by Kring, Heroes: Eclipsed is set years after the events of the original series as new evos are being awakened and discovering powers that will change their lives. Featuring familiar villains and new enemies who once again will be attempting to suppress this next step in human evolution, it will be up to this new group of heroes to save the world.”
Of course, this isn’t the first project to follow the events of Heroes. In fact, Deadline emphasizes that this “premise evokes the 2015 limited series Heroes Reborn, also created by Kring, which also was set years after the events in the original series and introduced a new group of evos as more ordinary people discovered that they possess unique abilities.”
In contrast to its predecessor, this iteration is conceived as a continuous series akin to the original, and it has been presented to NBC along with streaming platforms.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the development of Heroes: Eclipsed as we have them. With the recent real-world eclipse, this is certainly fitting timing. And, at a time when superheroes are more popular than ever before, there’s certainly lots of potential to mine with a reboot of the superhero show Heroes.
