Paramount Plus, much like many other newer streaming services, has been doing its best to find a niche in the streaming industry. The platform has found one franchise in particular from Paramount’s library that has been a great asset in building their audience. However, one such fan-favorite Paramount Plus show is revealed to be coming to an end after five seasons.
This particular series was launched as one of many new Paramount Plus shows set in the iconic universe. Fans were delighted by the series which has managed to release a total of four seasons to date. A fifth season, currently in production, is slated to be released in the fall.
As shared by Variety, however, this will be the final season for the hit Paramount show. Here’s what the publication had to share:
“‘Star Trek: Lower Decks,’ the first animated ‘Star Trek‘ comedy, will conclude its run on the streamer with its fifth season, which will debut in the fall.”
This conclusion does make sense with the fourth season of the show giving its characters promotions. There is, however, a chance that these beloved characters could still appear in other Star Trek media. As shared by executive producer Alex Kurtzman and executive producer and showrunner Mike McMahon:
“We remain hopeful that even beyond Season 5, Mariner, Boimler, Tendi, Rutherford and the whole Cerritos crew will live on with new adventures,” they said. “While five seasons of any series these days seems like a miracle, it’s no exaggeration to say that every second we’ve spent making this show has been a dream come true.”
Hopefully we’ll have a clearer picture for the future of this side of Star Trek by the time Lower Decks Season 5 comes around. Until then, fans can look forward to a proper and satisfying conclusion when the fifth season premieres later this year.
