Netflix has certainly cancelled its fair share of beloved shows over the years. Of course, the streaming service has also given other programs the opportunity to continue under a new roof. Now it looks like another canceled series could find a way to return through Netflix.
A canceled series from Starz that lasted only two seasons is one of many programs being canceled by the network. However, Lionsgate Worldwide Television Distribution has licensed this particular series to Netflix. This gives the streaming platform “nonexclusive rights to the two-season, 16-episode” series.
And, while they have “not renewed the series,” they could have the opportunity to do so if it performs well enough. This would certainly be an incentive for fans to view the series on Netflix and help promote the program. Especially if it means that Netflix could take the opportunity to renew it.
THR continues, however, that the series – Heels – could also be complicated to do a third season for. As it turns out, the show’s star – Stephen Amell – “signed on in February as the lead in NBC’s highly anticipated spinoff of Suits.” Likewise, co-star Alexander Ludwig is also busy with the new sci-fi drama series Earth Abides.
On the bright side, Heels might do well enough on Netflix nonetheless to make it worth solving the logistics issues. The service has already landed many different WWE rights, so it would be the perfect home for a WWE-adjacent series like Heels.
Hopefully we’ll have more details soon regarding the performance of the series after it has some time to acquire views on Netflix. In the meantime, the concept of the series Heels making a return on Netflix is a promising possibility. Especially for fans that were disappointed when the series concluded with a mere two seasons after being canceled by Starz.
