Fans have been anxiously awaiting the release of MaXXXine. The upcoming horror film is a follow-up to Ti West’s hugely successful ventures, X and Pearl. X initiated a throwback series to different time periods, with a setting in the 1970s. Pearl followed this up by taking place in the late 1910s. Now, as shown in the trailer below, MaXXXine will take things to the 1980s.
Excitingly enough, the new film will return the focus to Mia Goth‘s Maxine Minx. The character was first introduced in X, where she survived a murder spree by the follow-up film’s titular Pearl. Pearl, whose story was told in the prequel, was killed at the end of X. However, it’s clear that Maxine Minx will have to continue living in the shadow of the horrific events depicted in the original movie.
Additionally, Mia Goth has played the roles of both Maxine and Pearl throughout the series. Now fans will get to see how Maxine herself has processed the events of X, and furthermore, a new time period told throughout the series’ unique perspective. The films have so far depicted the history of both film production and, more specifically, the evolution of pornography. MaXXXine will further explore how this genre evolved and boomed in the 1980s.
Here’s the official teaser trailer for MaXXXine:
Ti West returned to both write and direct the highly-anticipated A24 sequel. The film stars Mia Goth, Halsey, Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Lily Collins, Giancarlo Esposito, and Kevin Bacon.
Fans will be able to see MaXXXine when it hits theaters on July 5, 2024. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the upcoming release of MaXXXine as we have them. Given the success of its two predecessors, X and Pearl, it will be exciting to see how MaXXXine performs. Especially since it will follow the events of both films.
