The 1923 novel Bambi, a Life in the Woods, was the inspiration for Disney’s successful animated adaptation Bambi from 1942. Now it’s seemingly inspired a completely different kind of movie – Bambi: The Reckoning – the trailer for which you can see below.
As the footage reveals, Bambi: The Reckoning is actually a horror movie that turns the titular childhood icon into a killer. If you weren’t already aware, that’s because this film comes from the creators of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey and its newly-released sequel. Additionally, this is only the first of several other new horror-themed iterations of classic childhood characters.
The brief synopsis for the film reveals the following setup:
“We follow Xana (Roxanne McKee) and her son Benji (Tom Mulheron) who find themselves in a car wreck and soon hunted down by the vicious killing machine, Bambi.”
The synopsis notes that “Bambi will destroy anyone in its path,” with the following tagline that might actually be quite clever:
“Oh dear, we aren’t done!”
Here’s the newly-released teaser trailer for the upcoming horror film Bambi: The Reckoning:
The trailer has arrived not long after the release of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2. Of course, the creators of these films have plenty of projects planned to form what they’re calling the Twisted Childhood Universe. This also includes new takes on beloved characters like Peter Pan and Pinocchio. Bambi is just the first of these characters after Winnie the Pooh and his friends to receive the new makeover.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Bambi: The Reckoning and the other upcoming Twisted Childhood Universe projects, including Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 3, as we have them. It’s unknown how successful this brand will become, but it’s certainly interested seeing so many childhood icons turned into villains – and all within the same universe.
