The horror genre is widely recognized for its iconic villains that have continued to withstand the test of time. Of course, many of these iconic roles have been recast or reimagined completely over the years. Fortunately, it looks like one iconic horror franchise is getting a new movie – and it’s set in the original continuity.
There are very few horror franchises left that still continue within the continuities that established them. Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street are examples of franchises that have been remade. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, on the other hand, has been reimagined with several new continuities including sequels and remakes over the decades.
For this particular franchise, however, it’s nearly all consistent under the same timeline. Aside from a remake in 2019 through a separate ownership of the rights, it’s continued to this day with the same characters and storylines. Now, as shared in a new interview, a new movie is in the works that will continue this particular horror franchise and its original continuity.
Child’s Play writer Don Mancini, who continued to write the character of Chucky for numerous sequels including the ongoing television series, has confirmed that he’s started work on a new movie. It’s worth noting that the ongoing series is already a follow-up to the original seven movies of the franchise, so having a new movie is certainly an interesting prospect.
Here’s what he shared with the Scream Dreams Podcast:
“Like anyone in this business, I want to do more things. At this point though if it’s only Chucky I’m totally cool with that,” Mancini explains. “I have other things I want to do. I’m working on a new pilot. I’m also, actually, in the early stages of working on a new Chucky movie.”
Mancini adds, “At this point, my goal is just to keep working.”
Hopefully we’ll have more details soon. In the meantime, fans can look forward to the return of Chucky Season 3. It’s possible that this film will work alongside the television series, assuming the show is renewed, so it looks like fans have plenty of Child’s Play content to look forward to.
