Disney Plus has been experimenting with bringing in Hulu and Fox materials to their streaming service. As such, the once completely family-friendly nature of the service has changed to include more mature films and shows. Now one such controversial R-Rated movie is climbing the charts at Disney Plus.
Of course, in spite of the film’s graphic nature, it’s actually been receiving rave reviews from both critics and audiences. In fact, the 2023 film had four wins at the 96th Academy Awards. The film’s star, Emma Stone, even won Best Actress at the ceremony.
Disney Plus subscribers are eagerly watching the film now that it’s available for streaming. At the time of this writing, it’s already reached the tenth place on the streaming platform. It’s clear that fans have no problem watching this film which features a rather racy style.
The film, titled Poor Things, is based on the 1992 novel of the same name by Alasdair Gray. Yorgos Lanthimos directed the film which was written by Tony McNamara. In addition to Emma Stone, the cast of the picture includes Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe, Ramy Youssef, Christopher Abbott, and Jerrod Carmichael.
The plot of the picture revolves around Emma Stone‘s character, Bella Baxter, who is actually a woman in Victorian London that is brought back to life by the eccentric surgeon Godwin Baxter.
It’s a fascinating plot because not only is the woman brought back to life, but she is given the brain of her fetus she was pregnant with before killing herself prior to the events of the film. This leads her on a journey for self-discovery and romance as she understands the world around her.
