The plans for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, have no doubt changed between Sony and Marvel Studios over the years. For the most part, however, fans have been pleased with the direction the character took across his film appearances – and they’re especially excited for Spider-Man 4 to follow the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Now, however, it looks like a massive change is being rumored for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in Spider-Man 4.
Spider-Man: No Way Home saw the character have all memory of his existence wiped away, following the death of his Aunt May, and the departure of both Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker and Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker as they returned to their respective universes. As such, the doorway is wide open for any number of new Spider-Man stories to be told in the MCU.
Because of this, however, it seems as though Spider-Man 4 will feature a major change as it continues to tell the story of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. This is based on rumors shared by insider Alex Perez via Cosmic Circus.
Of course, the following information should be taken with a grain of salt. Nevertheless, given the dire conclusion of Spider-Man: No Way Home, it’s not exactly a surprising change for the character. Here’s what Perez shared regarding Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, after explaining that the previous three Spider-Man films were about his origin in the MCU and his youthful personality:
“This all leads to the next chapter in his story. The idea now moving forward is to give him a sense of independence. In his mind, Peter Parker is no more… but Spider-Man lives on. Since he has either lost or detached himself from everyone he’s ever loved, all he has to keep him going is being Spider-Man, whether the city loves him for it or not,” Perez shares. “And as the title of Spider-Man continues to consume Peter’s life little by little, Peter Parker will take a back seat and continue to fade from existence slowly.”
He even compares the character “to Robert Pattinson’s Batman inThe Batman.” This is definitely a much darker take on the character than fans might expect. After three films and several outside appearances, however, it might be time for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker to endure a darker story arc. Of course, we’ll just have to see how this rumor pans out.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Spider-Man and the return of Tom Holland as the fan-favorite character as we have them. For now, it’ll be interesting to see how the story of his character continues, especially with what we’ve seen so far.
