The Star Wars film franchise has developed in some fascinating ways since its inception in 1977. Now a new title suggests that the Star Wars brand is headed for an all-new direction.
At one point in time, Star Wars was known for the original trilogy of films with Star Wars (later retitled A New Hope), The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. The films were followed by a prequel trilogy consisting of The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith.
The conclusion of the prequel trilogy seemed to spell an end for the franchise’s live-action era. Of course, over the course of the past decade, Disney used its acquisition of the Star Wars rights to produce all-new live-action films and animated projects. This included the release of The Force Awakens, the seventh installment of the main Skywalker Saga, and two additional follow-ups with The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.
The sequel trilogy those films created was immediately met with controversy and division by fans, especially with the release of the latter two films. Nevertheless, Disney is moving forward with their storylines, bringing star Daisy Ridley back to reprise her role as Rey – named Rey Skywalker by the end of the saga – and how she will be involved with the return of the Jedi Order.
Fans have suspected that Rey’s upcoming appearance will be utilized in a brand-new episode of the Skywalker Saga, with recent rumors suggesting the project would be titled Star Wars Episode X: A New Beginning. This appears to be false, however, as insider Jordan Maison claims the working title for the Star Wars project to be much different.
“Can confirm, with info directly from Lucasfilm that reports of the Rey-centric #StarWars movie being titled ‘Episode X: A New Beginning‘ is ‘categorically incorrect,” Maison writes.
“While working title is ‘New Jedi Order,’ ‘No other titles have been/are being used at this time.”

As such, the rumored title “Episode X: A New Beginning” appears to be ruled out. As for “New Jedi Order,” while it does tease a new direction for the franchise, it’s also yet to be considered finalized. It’s merely a working title. Similarly, it’s unknown still if it will be a main episode of the Skywalker Saga or some other spin-off project.
Ultimately it looks like we’ll have to continue waiting for more details regarding the movie. But it’s certainly shaping up to be an interesting new direction for Star Wars. Especially with the way the sequel trilogy left things hanging. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates as we have them.
