Disney has been gradually adapting a large number of animated classics from their library to live-action. For one animated Disney classic, however, it looks like its live-action remake is most likely cancelled. This is a potential result of the film losing its director.
As shared in a new report, theĀ movie could very easily be delayed indefinitely or outright cancelled as a result of this setback at Disney. The film’s director, Sarah Polley, was said to have left the project. It was initially announced with a screenplay penned by Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Lindsey Beer.
Of course, it’s possible that production could get back on track with a new director. At this point, however, Disney has become much more careful with which projects they’re greenlighting. As a result, they might assume that Bambi could be one such project not worth producing – as the news from The Wrap may suggest.
In fact, Disney CEO Bob Iger previously alluded to several projects that were cancelled at Disney. It could make even more sense that this is one of them. Obviously we’ll have to wait for an official announcement to know for certain. But with Sarah Polley no longer attached to direct the film, then there will certainly have to be some major changes put into place.
The live-action Bambi remake was shared with the following synopsis that implied a plot similar to that of the original animated story:
“The coming-of-age story of Bambi, the young deer struck by tragedy who counts amongst his woodland pals the rabbit Thumper and a skunk named Flower.”
The original Bambi movie was an animated drama film released in 1942. It’s continued to grow into an iconic classic over the decades, with many sequels and special appearances made by the titular character and his friends.
