The Scream film franchise is set to deliver fans the seventh installment in a big way. Fans know that Neve Campbell left Scream VI over a pay dispute. Now, however, that seems to have been solved as Neve Campbell is set to reprise her role as Sidney Prescott as the star of Scream 7.
This exciting news was confirmed by Campbell herself on Instagram. Additionally, she was able to share that the film has a new director attached. Christopher Landon was previously attached to helm the project, though he departed after the firing of previous star Melissa Barrera.
Here’s what Neve Campbell had to share on Instagram regarding her return to star in Scream 7, including a script cover that reads “UNTITLED SCREAM 7” with the film’s surprising new director named at the bottom:
“Hi All. I’m so excited to announce this news!!! Sidney Prescott is coming back!!!! It’s always been such a blast and an honor to get to play Sidney in the Scream movies. My appreciation for these films and for what they have meant to me, has never waned,” she begins.
“I’m very happy and proud to say I’ve been asked, in the most respectful way, to bring Sidney back to the screen and I couldn’t be more thrilled!!! Well actually I could. While I’ve been so incredibly lucky to make these films with both the master of horror Wes Craven and the wonderfully talented Matt and Tyler team, I’ve dreamt for many years of how amazing it would be to make one of these movies with Kevin Williamson at the helm. And now it’s happening, Kevin Williamson is going to direct Scream 7!”
Campbell further explains why Williamson will be such a great fit for Scream, having previously written the original movie and several of its sequels:
“This was his baby and it’s his brilliant mind that dreamt up this world. Kevin is not just an inspiration as an artist but has been a dear friend for many years. To the amazing Scream fans, I hope you are as excited as I am. See you on set @kevwilliamson”

The script cover also confirms that the screenplay is written by Guy Busick with a story by James Vanderbilt & Guy Busick. As such, it’ll be interesting to see how their writing comes together with Williamson taking over as director. Especially as Campbell herself notes, Scream “was his baby” after all.
Campbell and Williamson are both being announced after original director Christopher Landon left the movie. His decision to leave came after Melissa Barrera was fired for sharing social media posts that were deemed to be controversial. It was further reported that Jenna Ortega also left the project due to scheduling conflicts. As such, we’ll have to see what happens regarding their characters and the storylines established for the “Core Four” of 2022’s Scream and 2023’s Scream VI.
