In addition to Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, a number of fan-favorite Marvel actors are set to reprise their roles for Deadpool & Wolverine. The highly-anticipated third Deadpool movie is expected to further bridge the gap between Fox’s X-Men universe and Disney’s ongoing Marvel Cinematic Universe. As it turns out, however, one Marvel actor declined to return for Deadpool 3.
Sadly, it looks like one of the franchise’s earliest actors did not want to return for the new sequel. This can definitely be disappointing for some fans, especially those hoping to see their favorite characters make a return. Even more so if Marvel plans on rebooting the X-Men brand for the MCU. Nevertheless, it still wasn’t enough to convince this actor for a return.
Interestingly, however, it’s not because the actor didn’t want to reprise their role. In fact, the actor admits to being a major Deadpool fan. It seems as though they just didn’t have it in the budget to make his potential work on the movie easier on him.
Specifically, as shared via Yahoo! Movies UK, actor Vinnie Jones was asked by director Shawn Levy to return as Juggernaut for the film. He previously portrayed the role in X-Men: The Last Stand. Jones explains that he simply just can’t wear the suit like he used to.
“Funnily enough I just got asked to do Deadpool, the new one now, and I spoke to the director and I just said it’s such a drama putting that suit on mentally and physically,” he shared.
“I mean it had its mental toll as well because you’re in it and you can’t do anything all day, you can only drink through a straw. So we couldn’t strike the deal for Deadpool [& Wolverine].
“But Deadpool’s my favourite movie of all f***ing time more or less. I really wanted to do it, but they didn’t have the budget to put me in the suit.”
Fans would have no doubt enjoyed seeing Vinnie Jones back as Juggernaut. Especially because his role in X-Men: The Last Stand was cut short due to production issues. Jones shared this final statement regarding his work on that particular film:
“I was very upset, really, because it was such a movie, such a big stage and [I] became an extra, that’s what happened.”
It’s sad that Jones didn’t have the opportunity to play Juggernaut proper for Deadpool & Wolverine, but Marvel fans are no doubt grateful to hear that actor Vinnie Jones is also a fan of Deadpool and hopefully we’ll all be able to enjoy the new film.
