We’ve more recently seen older movies break into Netflix‘s Top 10. It’s clear that modern audiences have no issue with revisiting classics from the past. This time, however, a controversial movie from 1996 which starred Reese Witherspoon in one of her earlier roles is dominating Netflix.
In addition to Witherspoon, the film also starred actor Mark Wahlberg in a similarly young role. However, being that this particular film is a thriller, Wahlberg also ended up being nominated for the MTV Movie Award for Best Villain.
As such, it’s no surprise that the film is trending on the streaming platform. In fact, as you can see below, social media users have been praising the film online. As such, even several decades later, it’s clear that viewers are still crazy about the film.
Here are some of their tweets sparked by the Reese Witherspoon film streaming on Netflix:
“Fear” is in Netflix’s Top 10 today. I’ll only say this: Pay close attention to everything — everything! — said between Reese Witherspoon and her character’s father.

This is quite amusing because the movie, Fear, only earned $20.8 million at the box office. This made it something of a sleeper hit. At the same time, however, it’s also faced controversy. For example, the film has received criticism for its usage of violence against the LGBTQ crowd, examples of sexual abuse, and other such topics.
Nevertheless, Fear remains a popular movie that’s only continued to develop a cult classic status over the years. Now fans can appreciate the film by revisiting it on Netflix and giving it a watch. It’ll definitely be exciting to see how long it continues to dominate the Netflix charts.
James Foley directed the film which was written by Christopher Crowe. In addition to Reese Witherspoon and Mark Wahlberg, the film also stars William Petersen, Alyssa Milano, and Amy Brenneman.
