It’s been several years since the Star Wars franchise has offered a feature film on the big screen. In the meantime, however, fans have been treated to numerous different television projects on Disney Plus. Now it appears that one such Star Wars series will not move beyond its first season.
The television world of Star Wars has been explored in both live-action and animation. A few of these television shows, including The Mandalorian and The Bad Batch have received several seasons each, while other programs like The Book of Boba Fett haven’t. This is quite similar to the streaming service’s Marvel projects, where some shows are treated like miniseries events and others run for multiple seasons.
As such, it can be disappointing for fans to learn that one of the most beloved Star Wars shows to be released via Disney Plus is going to be confined to one season. Though there was never a second season announced by the studio, the one and only season certainly ended with a great opportunity for a continuation.
Viewers of the hit Disney Plus series Obi-Wan Kenobi were delighted to have Ewan McGregor return as the titular character. His role as Obi-Wan Kenobi is often cited as one of the biggest highlights from George Lucas’s prequel trilogy. As such, having him return alongside Hayden Christensen was certainly a gift for those fans of the prequels.
The series even ended with McGregor’s Obi-Wan seemingly beginning a new set of training missions under the guidance of Liam Neeson’s Qui-Gon Jinn from beyond the grave. Unfortunately, it looks like that’s the end for their characters. At least as far as the series Obi-Wan Kenobi will give us.
This is because Disney recently announced new home video releases for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Moon Knight, Andor Season 1, and Obi-Wan Kenobi via Variety. Obi-Wan Kenobi stands out, however, because while the other shows are marketed as “The Complete First Season,” the Obi-Wan series is marketed as “The Complete Series.”
It seems as though Disney is closing the door on Obi-Wan Kenobi, while leaving it open for their other shows to continue. Hopefully we’ll have more information soon, and whether or not McGregor’s Kenobi could appear in another project of some kind. In the meantime, however, fans can stream the series via Disney Plus in addition to purchasing the upcoming physical release.
