Amazon Prime Video has gifted subscribers with some very incredible television shows and feature films over the years. Sadly, however, it’s been confirmed that the streaming service will be canceling one of their most beloved shows. The Prime Video series will come to an end with its upcoming season.
Of course, that does mean some good things for fans, as the series will be given an appropriate ending to conclude its storyline. Many shows, especially in the streaming era, tend to be canceled without any kind of proper conclusion. As such, that should be bittersweet news for fans.
The cancellation of the series was shared in a new report, which confirmed the Amazon Prime Video series will only last four seasons with the release of its next batch of episodes. The series first premiered as far back as October 2020, so it’s certainly been with fans pretty consistently over the most recent few years.
The sci-fi comedy series, titled Upload, is “set in a technologically advanced future where holographic phones, self-driving vehicles, AI assistance, and 3D food printers are the norm,” as shared by the official synopsis. The description continues – “And, forget about dying – instead, you’ll be ‘uploaded’ to a virtual reality afterlife, and enjoy all the comforts of a world-class resort. Provided you can afford it.”
Creator, writer, and executive producer Greg Daniels shared the following statement regarding the cancellation of Upload via Variety:
“When I conceived ‘Upload’ many years ago, I had the story arced out over four seasons, so I am thrilled to make the ending the fans deserve and the characters and creative team have been working towards,” Daniels shared. “Jen Salke and Vernon Sanders have been our Angels and they deserve 5 stars.”
Vernon Sanders, head of television for Amazon MGM Studios, shared his own statement:
“I’m thrilled to share that ‘Upload’ will return to Prime Video for a fourth and final installment,” Sanders began. “We are grateful to Greg and the fantastic team behind the series and while goodbyes are bittersweet, we know that the series will be uploaded to its well-deserved idealistic after-life.”
As mentioned, it’s disappointing to finally see the series come to an end. But it is a bittersweet disappointment because we will get to have a proper ending.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Amazon Prime Video and their film and television projects as we have them. For now, however, it looks like fans can prepare for Upload to release its fourth and final season.
