One of horror’s biggest franchises to erupt in recent years started with The Purge. The dystopian sci-fi horror franchise have been a popular hit with audiences, for its violence, action, and themes of political satire. A sixth film in the series is currently in the works, and it’s been stated that The Purge 6 will be the final film in the franchise.

Obviously many fans will be disappointed to learn the franchise is coming to an end. However, with six films and a television series, it certainly wasn’t a bad run. Especially when considering the next film will be bringing back one of the franchise’s most beloved characters.

Frank Grillo, who played Leo Barnes in The Purge: Anarchy and The Purge: Election Year, has confirmed that he’ll star in the upcoming sequel. Additionally, he revealed the status of the film. This was all shared in a new interview.

Here’s what he shared about The Purge 6 and how it will be the final film when speaking with Screen Rant:

“The script is done. It basically centers around Leo Barnes, my character. It would be the last of the last of the last, it’s like the guy who keeps retiring. James DeMonaco is going to direct it, if it happens, and it’s a matter of money. It’s a matter of how big they want the movie to be, how much money they want to spend on the movie, considering they’ve done a lot in this franchise. But it’s a great script .”

Sadly, it seems as though progress on The Purge 6 must be going along slowly. Grillo seems to imply that it hasn’t yet been greenlit. Hopefully development continues to go smoothly, however, and we’ll see this “great script” in action.

The most recent entry in the franchise, The Forever Purge, was released in 2021. It was initially said to be the final film in the series as well, though Blumhouse CEO Jason Blum has since revealed that a sixth film is in development. Now that we know a script is written, and that Grillo is pleased with it so far, it’ll be interesting to see what happens next.

Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on The Purge 6 as we have them. It certainly sounds like a good way to end the hit series, and fans would no doubt appreciate seeing Frank Grillo back as Leo Barnes.
