The slasher genre has always been one of horror’s highest-selling subgenres. As such, it’s been quite nice to see so many slasher movies make a comeback in recent years. Now one such slasher movie is dominating the Netflix charts following its theatrical run.
The earliest slasher films include the likes of Halloween, Friday the 13th, and My Bloody Valentine. It’s in this tradition, and those more self-aware films like Scream, that 2023’s slasher hit structured itself after. And, as you can see from the responses below, viewers are clearly resonating with it.
Of course, it’s not surprising to see so many positive responses to the film. Fans have waited more than a decade for this particular film to finally come to fruition. For those that are unaware, the film can be traced as far back as 2007.
For those unaware, the film is none other than Eli Roth‘s Thanksgiving, which began life as a faux trailer for 2007’s Grindhouse. It wasn’t until 2023 that Roth was finally able to release a feature based on the concept. And fans are loving it.
Here are some of the responses on social media made by those who’ve watched the slasher movie on Netflix since it was added this year:

It’s great to see that Thanksgiving has found such a supportive audience not long after its release. It’s not uncommon for these types of films to only build a following over time. For Thanksgiving, however, it seems to have been an instant hit – and a sequel is already greenlit.
Perhaps it’s safe to say, then, that the slasher genre is back in full force. Hopefully we’ll continue to have a healthy helping of both new and classic horror icons as they make their way to screens everywhere.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding what’s trending on Netflix. For now, fans can get their Thanksgiving fix on the streaming platform.
