It’s a difficult environment in the world of television. A show can be canceled at any given time, even if it’s successful, and even more so if it suffers terrible ratings. Now one such NBC series might be in trouble.
This particular series premiered to a good start for its first season. It wasn’t long after that a second season was greenlit. With the second season finished, however, it has some fans worried because there hasn’t yet been a renewal for a third.
This can be a difficult time and we’ll have to see if NBC ultimately renews the series. For now, however, it doesn’t look good. Even the show’s co-runner and executive producer has come to terms with the possibility of the show ending.
Quantum Leap co-showrunner and executive producer Dean Georgaris didn’t want the second season to end on a major cliffhanger. Georgaris confirms this is because even he is unaware if the show will have a third season.
On that note, the end of Quantum Leap Season 2 does set the stage for an exciting new story if it does happen. Here’s what Georgaris shared (via TVInsider):
“Whenever you’re doing seasons of television, most of the time you don’t know about the next season, and we were very conscious that we didn’t want to leave the audience hanging too dramatically,” he begins.
“We wanted the ending to satisfy and to make them excited for the next chapter or, as someone said to me, demand a third season. And I think having now Ben and Addison leaping kind of demands a third season, because it’s opening up a whole new dynamic. At the same time, if at the beginning of Season 1, we separated the two of them, then we have united the two of them. So I think what’s nice is it’s a wonderful way to end what I think of as the first act of a three act multi-season journey for our two characters.”
The ratings of the show were examined by CosmicBook, and as they’ve shared, they drop drastically from the first season and into the second. Though it’s possible that NBC could greenlight the series for another season, their hesitance to have announced anything so far is certainly telling.
