It’s no surprise that there are quite a few highly-anticipated sequels in the works in Hollywood today. As such, it’s quite exciting to know that a sequel to a fan-favorite movie is finally happening.
The existence of the new sequel’s production was revealed by a new report. The report was regarding a number of upcoming projects that have managed to secure production tax credits in California.
In addition to titles that include the upcoming Star Wars project The Mandalorian & Grogu and the film Mercy, the publication managed to reveal that an unexpected sequel to a popular Ben Affleck movie is in the works.
It appears that Amazon MGM Studios is developing this particular feature. As shared by Variety, they note that “‘The Accountant 2‘ starring Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal” has secured an incentive commitment.
Colleen Bell, the California Film Commission’s executive director, shared the following statement regarding these productions:
“The array of film projects announced today demonstrates California’s enduring attraction for storytellers. These productions, spanning big-budget features to indie films, not only infuse millions into our economy but also showcase our state’s talent and versatility,” Bell said. “We’re proud to welcome these projects, highlighting California’s resilience and continued prominence in the film industry.”
The Accountant, released in 2016, starred Ben Affleck as Christian Wolff. His character, a certified public accountant with autism, has a career in money laundering and embezzlement. The film sports numerous action sequences and some incredible use of martial arts.
A sequel to The Accountant has been in various stages of development, with talks first being shared in 2017. Of course, it’s been nearly a decade since then, so it’s certainly excited to see significant progress has been made. Hopefully more details regarding the status of the project will be shared in the near future.
