Over the years, Netflix has become a rather popular destination for true crime seekers. The streaming service offers a number of true crime documentaries, recreations, and other such programs that retell or shed light on notorious crimes and criminals.
Now one such documentary, a feature-length film, has managed to break into Netflix’s Top 10. As of this writing, the 2024 documentary is already at the number 3 spot. And, as you can see below, social media users are praising the project.
Sam Hobkinson directed this particular true crime documentary which features Dave Kroupa and Cari Farver. The premise is simple, revolving around “a mechanic” as he “tries online dating for the first time and meets a woman who takes romantic obsession to a deadly extreme.”
The film, titled Lover, Stalker, Killer, premiered on the streaming service on February 9, 2024. With the appropriate timing around the Valentine’s Day holiday, many social media users have taken the time to watch the film for themselves. Here are some of their reactions:

The events of the Netflix true crime documentary took place in 2012. It revolves around Dave Kroupa who decides to get back into dating after leaving a long-term relationship. He connects with Shanna “Liz” Golyar, a single mother from Persia, Iowa, and the two agree to see one another without getting into anything serious.
Things became complicated when Kroupa also met Cari Farver from Macedonia, Iowa. Farver eventually met Golyar, and while Farver and Kroupa continued to see one another, Farver eventually vanished. Soon enough, Kroupa and Golyar began getting messages from Farver and other suspicious messages were sent to Farver’s mother, Nancy Raney.
Ultimately, it was discovered that Farver didn’t actually send any of these messages. As it turns out, she was being impersonated by Golyar. This was discovered when Golyar’s phone and tablet were found to have photos of Golyar’s car, logins to fake emails, and even a photo of Farver’s dead body.
She was found guilty of first-degree murder in December 2016. Golyar is now serving a life sentence at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women as a result. As for Kroupa, he resides in rural Nebraska with his current partner, Maggie Hover.
