The Netflix series Stranger Things first premiered nearly a decade ago in 2016. Since then, several seasons have excited fans across the globe, often with several years spent into making each iteration. Now, with the final season upon us, a frustrating update has been delivered regarding Stranger Things Season 5.
As mentioned, the upcoming fifth season is set to conclude the main storyline for the series. Though there are several spin-off projects in various stages of development, Netflix is hard at work with getting the fifth season off the ground. Fans are eager to see how the show ends – especially with how the fourth season concluded.
Unfortunately, the Next on Netflix presentation via Deadline revealed a disappointing update for Stranger Things fans hoping that the season would be premiering later this year. Rather, it looks like there will still be quite a long wait before the fifth season arrives on the service.
The presentation unveiled Netflix’s slate of new films and television shows that are scheduled to premiere on the service this year. As such, 2024 has plenty of exciting projects to look forward to. One of these projects, however, will not be Stranger Things Season 5. In fact, the season wasn’t featured at all as part of the slate.
This means that fans will have to wait until 2025 for the new season to premiere. If you do the math, that means it will have been three years since the fourth season premiered by the time the fifth comes out. That’s certainly a long wait, with years between seasons.
Of course, there have been plenty of reasons for such a delay. Obviously there were the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes that held up countless Hollywood productions. Now that the show has finally started production, however, there is still time required for post-production and to complete the show’s massive number of visual effects.
In order to do the series finale properly, then, it will require an additional year to have the show ready for Netflix by 2025. Hopefully it’ll be worth the wait. Especially with Stranger Things being such a pop culture phenomenon. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates as we have them.
