The Predator film franchise had a rather rocky time over the years. The release of Prey, however, seems to have saved the brand. Now Prey director Dan Trachtenberg is already attached to direct another Predator movie titled Badlands.
This exciting news was shared by Deadline, where they reported that “the film is a high priority for the studio.” The publication adds that their “sources say Trachtenberg and execs are already meeting with talent for the lead role.”
Prey was a massive success for the studio, in which Amber Midthunder starred as a Comanche woman who must defy gender norms and traditions to fight one of the notorious alien hunters. For Prey, however, it looks like they’ll be taking a completely different approach.
The site notes that plot details are under wraps, but that there could be a big release planned for this particular entry. Prey was released via Hulu, but this new outing could mark a theatrical return for the franchise:
“Plot details are being kept under wraps other than it featuring everyone’s favorite extraterrestrial big game hunter. It is also not known about release plans as the last film exclusively streamed on Hulu (breaking numerous viewerships records for the streamer) but given that 20th Century has been very much back in the theatrical game with films like Boogeyman and the upcoming Alien: Romulus film bowing in theaters, a theatrical premiere isn’t out of the question.”
Fortunately, it doesn’t look like this is the only Predator project in the works. 20th Century Studios is said to also be discussing a direct sequel to Prey. And, considering that film’s success, many fans will be happy to have that particular entry as well.
