Marvel Studios is currently working on Wonder Man, a new Marvel series coming to Disney Plus. Sadly, it’s been revealed that a crew member has died while working on the Wonder Man set.
As shared via Deadline, a rigger named Juan Carlos Osorio, age 41, was working at Radford Studios in Studio City for the project. The publication adds that he died on February 6 “after falling from a catwalk.”
This is certainly upsetting news. The publication notes that “the series was not filming at the time.” Additionally, a statement was shared by a Marvel spokesperson after confirming the news.
Here’s what they shared regarding the death of the Wonder Man crew member:
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family and friends, and our support is behind the investigation into the circumstances of this accident.”
There has been a GoFundMe set up for Juan Carlos Osorio that has raised over 154k at the time of this writing.
It’s worth noting that Wonder Man has already faced a difficult production. The Disney Plus series suffered a major delay when WGA and SAG-AFTRA both went on strike. Since those strikes were resolved, however, things have started to fall back into place. This follows rumors that the series was almost canceled altogether.
The cast of Wonder Man is set to be led by actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as the character Simon Williams. Other cast members expected to appear in the upcoming series include Demetrius Grosse, Lauren Glazier, Ben Kingsley, Ed Harris, and David Moskowitz.
A release date for the series has yet to be given. However, it’s expected to be released under the “Marvel Spotlight” banner which was first created for the Disney Plus series Echo. As such, it’s possible we might even see other appearances from the show’s titular Wonder Man in other future MCU projects.
