Tim Burton’s upcoming sequel to Beetlejuice will be hitting theaters later this year. Now it looks like he already has his eyes set on his next project – and it looks like Tim Burton will be tackling the sci-fi genre next.
It has been revealed that Tim Burton will be teaming up with screenwriter Gillian Flynn for the project. Fans will be familiar with Flynn’s work which includes the hit film Gone Girl.
This particular project does seem like a big departure from that aforementioned film, however, with it actually being a remake of a classic 1958 movie. Tim Burton doesn’t often have the opportunity to remake such films, but this will definitely appeal to fans of his signature style.
The film will actually be a remake of Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman. As Variety notes, the story “follows a wealthy heiress who grows into a giant after an alien encounter and exacts revenge on her cheating husband.”
It’s worth adding that the film will also feature Burton teaming up with Warner Bros again following the production of Beetlejuice 2. Of course, he’s worked with the studio on plenty of other projects in the past, including the original Beetlejuice, Batman, and its sequel Batman Returns.
Hopefully we’ll have more details regarding the project in the near future. Tim Burton will produce the sci-fi remake alongside Andrew Mittman and Tommy Harper. Kai Dolbashian is serving as executive producer on the project.
The original film starred Allison Hayes, William Hudson, and Yvette Vickers. It was produced on a budget of just $88,000 for the time.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on this interesting new project for Tim Burton as we have them. With the release of Beetlejuice 2, it’s certainly becoming an exciting time for fans of the beloved director.
