The Evil Dead franchise has taken on some interesting new variations over the years. The original trilogy consisting of The Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, and Army of Darkness was released between 1981 and 1992. It was later revived with the remake Evil Dead in 2013, the television series Ash vs Evil Dead between 2015 and 2018, and the reboot Evil Dead Rise in 2023. Now a new Evil Dead spin-off movie is in the works.
The most recent installment in the series, Evil Dead Rise, appeared to open a new doorway for additional Evil Dead stories to be told. Now, as shared via Deadline, filmmaker Sébastien Vaniček has been tapped to direct the next installment of the franchise. This is no doubt due to the success that Evil Dead Rise had, especially as the highest-grossing installment of the series to date.
Evil Dead Rise was produced on a $15-19 million budget and made $147 million worldwide. It’s quite impressive when you consider the film was initially intended to be released straight-to-streaming via Max. Obviously fans are still adamant for more Evil Dead content, however, and it means that we’ll be getting more installments as long as they keep performing well.
At the time of this writing, however, it’s worth noting that “details as to the film’s plot are under wraps.” As such, it’s unclear what exactly the plot of the film will be. Hopefully, however, we’ll have more details in the near future. Especially now that a director for the project has been attached.
His new film Infested revolves around the residents of a rundown French apartment building. They must come together in an effort to battle an army of deadly, rapidly reproducing spiders. Interestingly, it seems to sound quite similar to the premise of Lee Cronin‘s Evil Dead Rise, and that might just be the reason why he was chosen.
