Netflix has unfortunately canceled a psychological thriller series after one season even though they initially ordered two seasons. Fans have been left hanging since 2020 for the second season to be released on Netflix. Unfortunately, it looks like the show is officially over.
Ryan Murphy, creator of the hit horror series American Horror Story, reunited with several collaborators for this particular psychological thriller for Netflix. This is one reason the show was such a hit at the time of its release.
Perhaps most surprising is that the two season order was first confirmed as far back as 2017, several years before the show’s eight-episode first season was released in 2020. Unfortunately, their ambitious plans are now over. This was confirmed by the show’s own star, Sarah Paulson after a Deadline report.
Sarah Paulson starred in Ratched as Nurse Mildred Ratched, a character introduced in the original 1962 story One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. For those unfamiliar, the premise revolves around Nurse Ratched as she receives her first job at a psychiatric hospital and navigates the mental healthcare system and furthers her career.
Here’s what social media had to say regarding the cancellation:
What the actual hell @netflix how are you cancelling Ratched despite it doing really well?! It’s not our fault that you didn’t bother making another season, we would have watched it! 🤬 this kind of shit is why so many people are cancelling your service!

I’m really mad that Ratched got cancelled though….acting goodt and production 🔥. I know Netflix renewed but it’s been 4 years and Ryan Murphy probably said forgot it lol

@netflix I was going to watch off of just finish Cuckoo Nest. No need to start watching now, what’s the point for just one season. 🤷🏾♂️

Typical @netflix make a decent drama, then chuck it in the bin, like Mindhunter, meanwhile they continue to make a load of cheap reality TV style rubbish.

In addition to executive producers Michael Douglas and Ryan Murphy, the series was executive produced by Ian Brennan, Sarah Paulson, Alexis Martin Woodall, Aleen Keshishian, Jacob Epstein, Jennifer Salt, Margaret Riley, Robert Mitas, and Tim Minear.
Other than Sarah Paulson, the cast of the series included Sharon Stone, Cynthia Nixon, Finn Wittrock, Jon Jon Briones, Charlie Carver, Judy Davis, Harriet Harris, Hunter Parrish, Amanda Plummer, Corey Stoll, Sophie Okonedo, and Vincent D’Onofrio.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional Netflix updates as we have them. It’s certainly disappointing to see this series axed after just one season, especially when it was initially supposed to receive a second season. On the bright side, Ryan Murphy is still going strong with American Horror Story.
