The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been placing its focus on numerous new superheroes and supervillains. Of course, many fans prefer whenever their favorite characters are back on the screen. Now, exciting enough, one another has teased his MCU return as its most iconic villain.
The MCU has been incorporating a number of storylines that are currently all converging to the same place: the Multiverse. This has allowed Marvel Studios to utilize a number of characters from the franchise’s earlier installments, and in some cases, other continuities.
Now, however, one of the franchise’s biggest villains could come back. This was teased by the actor themself, who most noticeably played the role in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame in addition to a few other small appearances.
Here’s what the man behind Thanos, Josh Brolin, shared while speaking with ComicBook.com about the possibility:
“You know, I hear kind of like through the grapevine, that they’re gonna bring him back,” Brolin teased. “And there’s the What If…? series and that’s a different kind of Thanos and all that. But I don’t know in the Marvel world whether they’re going to bring him back, but I didn’t know that he was the most killed-off Marvel villain … You learn something new every day.”
The MCU version of the character was first introduced in 2012’s The Avengers during the film’s post-credits scene. He was played by actor Damion Poitier for that initial appearance.
Josh Brolin then took over the role for a small cameo appearance in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers: Age of Ultron, with the aforementioned blockbusters Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame having turned him into an all-time great cinematic villain. A variant of the character was later explored in the first season of the Disney Plus series What If…? in 2021.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Josh Brolin and his potential return as the iconic MCU villain Thanos as we have them. It’d certainly be exciting to see him come back to the role, especially at a time when seemingly anything is possible for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
