Netflix hasn’t held back when it comes to canceling their shows. The streaming service has become more adamant about curating their library in recent years, and if for one reason a series doesn’t perform as they see fit, Netflix has no issue with canning it.
Now, it looks like another one of the platform’s hit programs could be in trouble. In fact, if canceled, that means Netflix would end the show with only two seasons – something that would certainly come as a disappointment for fans of the show but not exactly a move that can be considered too surprising given the streaming giant’s prior history.
It should also be noted that John Hyams, who created the series, said as far back as April 2023 on the social media platform X that the show would not be renewed for a third season. Now we have an additional confirmation.
Reported by What’s On Netflix, the site writes that Black Summer was expected to have been ghost-canceled last year, but finally, we’ve got confirmation that the series won’t be returning for a third outing on Netflix.
As for what Hyams confirmed regarding Black Summer in 2023:
Sadly, nah

The series was created by both Hyams and Karl Schaefer. It was a spin-off of the hit live-action zombie apocalypse series Z Nation. A brief synopsis for the series described the show as follows:
“Thrust alongside a small group of American refugees, these complete strangers must find the strength they need to fight their way back to loved ones.”
It’s definitely unfortunate that the spin-off series has to be canceled. Of course, with streaming being such a competitive market and curation seemingly more important to these services than ever before, it does make sense.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Netflix and their decisions regarding their library as we have them. This is definitely unfortunate for fans of Black Summer, the two seasons of which are currently available to stream on Netflix.
