One of the next Marvel Cinematic Universe projects to begin production is Thunderbolts. The highly-anticipated team-up movie is set to include a major ensemble cast. Interestingly, however, it turns out a Marvel actor will be replaced for the upcoming blockbuster.
The cast so far includes the likes of David Harbour as Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as The Winter Soldier, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, and Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster with Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.
It was also recently confirmed that Lewis Pullman will be taking over from Steven Yeun as Sentry. Yeun was initially reported to be cast as the character, but he had to leave the project due to scheduling conflicts. Now it looks like another Marvel actor has been replaced for the upcoming MCU movie.
As noted by Deadline, Ayo Edebiri was previously attached to appear in the film. Now, however, she has stepped out of the project with Geraldine Viswanathan taking her place.

As of this writing, it hasn’t yet been announced what character Edebiri was initially set to portray. Thus that means it’s unclear who Viswanathan will now be playing. But it will certainly be interesting to see what role they end up with by the time the film starts production.
In addition to the other announced cast members, Harrison Ford is set to appear as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. He’ll be replacing the late William Hurt who previously played the character for the MCU. Fans could expect to see Ford play Red Hulk as a result.
Jake Schreier is set to direct Thunderbolts with Black Widow writer Eric Pearson having penned the screenplay. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates on the project as we have them.
Thunderbolts is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on July 25, 2025. It’ll be exciting to see how this upcoming ensemble will come together.
