The streaming platform Netflix often tends to feature newer films on its service. However, there’s one movie released a few years ago that’s making a comeback. In fact, this timely horror thriller movie has just broken into the Netflix Top 10.
At the time of this writing, the movie has already reached the number 9 spot on Netflix. Quite impressive for a film that’s too old to be considered brand-new, and a little too new to be considered a true classic.
Of course, the film also has the added benefit of brand-recognition. This is actually the fifth film in its respective franchise. Though franchise fatigue can be a thing, so it’s still quite a win.
The movie, titled The Forever Purge, is the most recent entry in the Purge film franchise. It’s worth noting that a sixth film in the series is currently in development, and there has been a prequel television series that ended in 2019.
Interestingly, the film was actually intended to conclude the film franchise as its final installment. Of course, having earned $77 million worldwide on an $18 million budget, it’s clear that there is still money to be made with the Purge brand. Especially with films like The Forever Purge still making a smash on Netflix.
As mentioned, and as with all of The Purge movies, it is considered a timely social and political commentary. It revolves around a group of lawless marauders who believe that the annual Purge should simply not end at daybreak.
The cast of the film includes Ana de la Reguera, Tenoch Huerta, Cassidy Freeman, Leven Rambin, Josh Lucas, and Will Patton.
Everardo Valerio Gout directed The Forever Purge which was written by series creator James Demonaco. He also produced the film along with Jason Blum and Michael Bay.
