WWE founder Vince McMahon recently faced allegations of battery and sex trafficking in a new lawsuit. Now it’s been formally announced that Vince McMahon has resigned from WWE owner TKO.
As shared via THR, McMahon is said to have “tendered his resignation from his positions as TKO Executive Chairman and on the TKO Board of Directors. He will no longer have a role with TKO Group Holdings or WWE.” This statement was shared by WWE president Nick Khan.
An additional statement was shared by McMahon himself, who denies the allegations made against him:
“I stand by my prior statement that Ms. Grant’s lawsuit is replete with lies, obscene made-up instances that never occurred, and is a vindictive distortion of the truth. I intend to vigorously defend myself against these baseless accusations, and look forward to clearing my name.
“However, out of respect for the WWE Universe, the extraordinary TKO business and its board members and shareholders, partners and constituents, and all of the employees and Superstars who helped make WWE into the global leader it is today, I have decided to resign from my executive chairmanship and the TKO board of directors, effective immediately,” he added.
This is far from McMahon’s first issues within the company. In fact, he managed to stay onboard as an executive chairman after WWE merged with Endeavor’s UFC to form TKO. Now, however, he cannot appoint himself back on the board. This is because he does not oversee the operations of TKO nor WWE.
McMahon’s place in the company has been consistently becoming less and less over the years. Now, however, the decision seems quite final: McMahon is no longer involved with WWE or TKO.
As the legal troubles for McMahon continue to pile up, however, we’ll have to see what happens next. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Vince McMahon, his legal status, and the future of WWE at TKO as we have them.
