Disney has been hard at work with crafting their live-action adaptation of the animated classic Snow White. Rachel Zegler is set to star as the titular character, but according to a new rumor, her screen time in Snow White could be cut short with a new subplot.
Rachel Zegler has divided the fanbase with her use of social media and other comments made regarding the original animated film and how different this new iteration will be. Many fans were upset by these statements.
Now, according to WDW Pro via That Park Place, Disney could be using a new actress to reduce Zegler’s screen time in the film. The publication claims to have heard a rumor that a younger version of Snow White could have her own subplot in the film. This would make way for flashbacks and other such sequences that would place the focus on a version of Snow White separate from Zegler’s performance.
Here’s what they shared:
“The source claims that Disney has hired a young actress to play Snow White as a child. The idea is to cut time out of Zegler’s performance, show Snow White as a cute little kid, and soften the character with flashbacks and/or major origin story portion at the beginning of the film. Of course, edits have not begun for these scenes as we believe they’re not shot yet, so things could change.”
It’s worth noting that if these changes were implemented, then it would still deviate the upcoming adaptation quite drastically from its original animated iteration. Nevertheless, Disney could believe that having a younger star would draw in audiences more than Zegler regardless of the faithfulness (or lack thereof) to the source material.
While this rumor should be taken with a grain of salt, the publication does add an additional rumor “that Emilia Faucher will play a young version of Rachel Zegler’s Snow White” that was shared by Inside the Magic and Disinsider. Though they add that “the original report is not working at the time of this publication.”
As such, we’ll have to see how these rumors pan out and what we can expect from Disney’s Snow White when it’s released next year. The live-action Disney adaptation Snow White is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 21, 2025. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates as we have them.
