It’s become easier these days for long-awaited sequels to finally move into production. Now, excitingly enough, another highly-anticipated movie sequel from Disney has started filming – after years of being stuck in “development hell” – with fans wondering if the film would even happen at all.
Interestingly, this film itself seems to be following a trend for this particular franchise. Each entry so far has followed a rather large time gap.
In fact, this particular sequel has started shooting just 14 years after its predecessor was released. As for the predecessor, it was released a whopping 28 years after the original film.
As you can see below, the film’s director, Joachim Rønning, shared a photo confirming that Tron 3 has finally started production. The following screenshot of the director’s chair, which reveals a logo for the film, was taken from the director’s Instagram story.
Here’s the image:

Though the film’s title is reported to be Tron: Ares, the logo on the chair stylizes the film’s title as “Tr3n.” It’s unknown, then, if the film will actually be Tron 3 with a unique stylization or if it will retain the Tron: Ares title.
In any case, it’s exciting to see that the film’s production has finally started after all these years. Again, Tron 3 has been a highly-anticipated sequel for quite some time, and fans are eager to see how it turns out. Hopefully now that production is underway, we’ll have more glimpses at the film in the near future.
The film is being directed by Joachim Rønning from a screenplay written by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne.
The cast of Tron: Ares includes Jared Leto, Evan Peters, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, Cameron Monaghan, and Sarah Desjardins.
Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding the third Tron film as we have them. After all these years, it’s about time the third entry gets underway. Hopefully fans won’t have to wait as long if a potential fourth film gets off the ground either.
