A number of classic monster movies have been reinvented with new remakes and interpretations. Now another classic monster movie is set to receive a remake – and the movie is reportedly scheduled to begin production in just a few months.
And, given the classic status of the original interpretation, it’ll be exciting to see what a modern-day take can provide. Especially when we consider that Maggie Gyllenhaal is attached to direct the project.
As shared by ProductionList.com via Fangoria, the classic monster movie remake could begin production as soon as this March. This is quite exciting because we’ve been hearing about this film for quite some time now.
For those who don’t know, however, the film is none other than Bride of Frankenstein. The original 1935 classic is being reimagined for the big screen, and the cast is reported to include such stars as Christian Bale, Penélope Cruz, Jessie Buckley and Peter Sarsgaard.
Here’s a brief summary of the film’s alleged plot and what roles we can expect the above actors to play:
“A horror thriller, about the Bride of Frankenstein. With Cruz as the bride Myrna, Bale as Frankenstein, and Sarsgaard playing a detective.”
Though Gyllenhaal has an impressive career as an actress, having appeared in such hits as Donnie Darko and The Dark Knight, this will mark her second film as director. Her first outing was the 2021 psychological drama The Lost Daughter. As such, it’ll be exciting to see her step even further into the horror genre.
The original classic was a direct sequel to the 1931 Frankenstein film. Of course, it brought a new layer to the story, with the addition of dark comedy that inspires so many filmmakers to this day.
