The Scream film franchise has no shortage of fan-favorite cast members. Of course, given the franchise’s slasher film nature, many of these actors are unable to return due to being killed off. This makes those returning stars all the more important to fans. Now Neve Campbell has teased her return to the Scream franchise if it happened “under the right circumstances.”
The Scream series seemed to be all but finished with Scream 4 in 2011. Then, in 2022, a reboot titled Scream brought new life to the brand as the fifth film in the saga. It brought back regulars Neve Campbell, David Arquette, and Courteney Cox with a new cast led by Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega. The film was successful enough that a sequel followed one year later in 2023 titled Scream VI.
The sixth entry was notable for having brought back Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, and Courteney Cox. Other newcomers from 2022’s film, Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown, also returned. They were joined by Hayden Panettiere who reprised her role as Kirby Reed from Scream 4 for the first time proper.
Unfortunately, one downside to Scream VI is that it lacked the presence of Neve Campbell’s character Sidney Prescott. The iconic final girl took the lead role in all four original movies helmed by Wes Craven. She returned for a supporting role in 2022’s Scream. After a pay dispute, however, she decided not to participate in Scream VI.
As shared by Variety, however, that doesn’t mean it’s the end for Campbell. In fact, she shared that she could return to the franchise “under the right circumstances.” Campbell revealed as much at the BAFTA Tea event at the Maybourne hotel in Beverly Hills.
This would certainly delight fans that were hoping such a scenario would happen for the franchise’s seventh entry. Unfortunately, Scream 7 is facing a number of other production troubles. Star Melissa Barrera was fired by production company Spyglass. This was followed with the announcement that Jenna Ortega dropped out due to scheduling conflicts.
Finally, the film’s director, Christopher Landon, revealed that he also dropped out of the project. He was supposed to take over from Radio Silence, a directing duo that tackled both 2022’s Scream and 2023’s Scream VI.
As such, we’ll have to see plenty of circumstances work out in just the right way for Scream 7 to happen at this point. But hopefully it will all work out for the best – with Neve Campbell and her co-stars receiving the treatment they deserve for delivering such great performances over the years.
