The popularity of the modern superhero movie has allowed many obscure and underrated comic book characters to make the leap to the big screen. Now another cult favorite comic book is finally getting a live-action movie adaptation.
Interestingly enough, many fans of MTV’s early years might be familiar with this particular story. The new film, which is reportedly moving forward at Paramount Pictures, even has a major star attached to boost the property’s appeal to the masses.
As shared in a new report, Paramount Pictures will be revitalizing a 35-issue comic book series that first debuted in 1993. The property was previously adapted as a 13-episode animated series for MTV.
Those that are already fans of the brand will know that this live-action movie is none other than The Maxx. The classic comic book and MTV series will finally come to life once again with this new adaptation. As for the major star attached, it looks like Channing Tatum will be playing the titular character.
The original trade report for the film, that can be traced back to 2019, claims that Tatum will produce with Roy Lee via Free Association, with Reid Carolin and Peter Kiernan, and Lee on board via Vertigo Entertainment. The Maxx creator Sam Kieth will also produce with his partner Tal Vigderson. Now, however, Daniel Richtman, claims that Cyrstal Moselle has now been attached to write and direct the film. Moselle previously worked on both The Wolfpack and State Kitchen.
Hopefully we’ll have more details regarding the production of The Maxx in the near future. As for now, this is certainly exciting news for fans, especially with such a star as Channing Tatum attached to the titular role. It’ll be interesting to see how Paramount Pictures plans to tackle such a bizarre and unique property and how it will translate to live-action.
