The hit animated series Bluey comes from Australia, though Disney distributes the hit show via Disney Junior and Disney Plus in the United States. Now Disney has censored a new episode of Bluey for its debut in the US.
Bluey first premiered in 2018. In the time since then it’s grown with high viewership on both television and digital. Furthermore, it’s won several awards, including two Logie Awards for Most Outstanding Children’s Program in addition to an International Emmy Kids Award in 2019.
As noted via TikTok user @aussiegirlmargie, however, Disney took the time to censor the Season 3 Episode 40 entry titled “Relax.” Many viewers will no doubt understand the change, however. As the user herself adds:
“But maybe it’s understandable this time.”
The video features a clip where the character named Bandit speaks a certain phrase that United States viewers use very differently than Australian viewers. The phrase happens to be “Dingleberries.” As you can see below:
@aussiegirlmargie Disney edited/censored bluey again! But maybe its understandable this time…. New bluey season 3c eps just dropped on disney plus! #bluey #blueytok #blueyheeler #disney #disneyplus #blueyrelax #blueyseason3c #disneycensorship #blueyedit #blueycensored #newbluey ♬ original sound – Aussie Girl Margie
Now, as a result of this change, Bandit instead says the phrase “Super Troopers.” It’s not often that viewers can agree on such a change, but in this circumstance, it definitely makes sense. Especially for those in the United States that might not even know what the term means in Australia.
This certainly keeps the series family-friendly even if the original phrase wasn’t intended to be anything inappropriate. It’s the decisions like these that help keep Bluey an appealing animated series that cleverly balances the lines between being an educational series for preschoolers yet also one that can be entertaining with its unique characters and use of storytelling.
Those interested can currently stream the hit animated series Bluey on Disney Plus. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding Disney and their titles available on the streaming service Disney Plus as we have them. The series currently consists of three seasons.
