The Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline s comprised of a very interesting canon featuring both films and television shows under the MCU umbrella. As additional projects continue to be distributed, however, it can be tricky to keep track of the overall continuity.
Now Marvel has clarified some questions fans have had regarding this growing timeline. It’s especially fitting timing as the studio has started to introduce more of these confusing elements throughout their newer projects.
Of course, with the introduction of the Multiverse, it seems as though any number of Marvel adaptations can now loosely be considered canon. But there is now an entire group of projects that have been officially confirmed as being canon in the MCU timeline.
This has been revealed by Marvel Studios via the Disney Plus app. The app contains a list of every MCU title in chronological order to determine the official canon of its franchise. Now the studio has added some very interesting titles to the list.
The continuity of the Netflix shows – Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and The Defenders – has long been debated. Though there are certain references to the greater MCU throughout these shows, it’s often been kept vague just how seriously Marvel Studios was taking their placement into consideration.
It became even more unclear what would happen to these shows when they were all canceled. Eventually, however, characters from the shows began appearing in the MCU. Daredevil made an appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home while Kingpin appeared in Hawkeye. Though fans continued to debate whether or not these were variants or the same characters from the Netflix era.
Disney Plus later acquired the Netflix shows and began to offer them on their streaming platform. It wasn’t until now, however, that they were officially added to the MCU’s “Timeline Order” category on the streaming service. This new order officially places each series into its respective time frame on the list.
As you can see below:

This is definitely an interesting time for fans. Many have pointed out that the newly-released Echo series has actually been placed in a Defenders category alongside the classic Netflix shows. As fans await the release of Daredevil: Born Again, it certainly teases some interesting new developments for the MCU’s future. Especially if we can expect other fan-favorite characters from the Netflix era to finally make a comeback in the greater MCU.
