The Star Wars franchise is currently in the midst of telling a number of stories set in different eras. Now one of these most popular storylines, which first began with The Mandalorian, will be headed to the big screen as The Mandalorian & Grogu movie.
Fans will be excited to know that Jon Favreau, creator of The Mandalorian, will direct the new film which is set to be released in theaters. Additionally, Favreau will produce the film alongside Kathleen Kennedy and Dave Filoni.
As shared via StarWars.com, Favreau shared the following statement regarding the project which is set to go into production in 2024:
“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” said Favreau. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”
Kathleen Kennedy, the president of Lucasfilm, added how excited she is for these characters, first introduced on Disney Plus, to join the big screen:
“Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen,” she shared.
The new film titled The Mandalorian & Grogu is set to “lead Lucasfilm’s ongoing feature-development slate.” Other directors set to tackle their own respective Star Wars films include Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, and Dave Filoni. The publication also adds that Filoni is currently involved with developing the second season of the Disney Plus series Ahsoka.
