James Gunn has faced numerous examples of criticism and backlash following his takeover of DC Studios. Now, however, things have reached a new level as James Gunn now has to respond to accusations of having visited Jeffrey Epstein’s island.
The controversy surrounding Epstein has found newfound attention in the media since flight logs regarding those who’ve traveled on his private plane, the “Lolita Express,” have surfaced. One social media user claimed that Gunn was one such passenger on Epstein’s plane.
“Was that before or after you went to Epstein’s Island,” he responded to James Gunn on a social media post. In an effort to clarify the matter, Gunn replied with the following:
“Some fan – distributing online lies without bothering to check out if they’re true or not. Here’s the flight logs. Spoiler: I’m not on them (ofc),” Gunn writes with a link to the flight logs.
As of this writing, the original interaction appears to have been deleted. Though one X user has shared a screenshot of the conversation on their own profile, noting how “disgusting” it is that we’ve reached this point:

Many of Gunn’s fans have come to his defense following the accusations as well. In fact, while one user claimed it didn’t make sense because Gunn is merely the director of the MCU Guardians of the Galaxy films, another user emphasized that his career hadn’t even gotten that far yet.
“He was still just the guy who wrote the scooby doo movies at that time,” he reminds. “Like he’s not getting in to most LA nightclubs at the time. Let alone being flown on Epstein’s plane.”

It’s certainly a good reminder that it’s never a bad idea to fact check information. Especially if you’re going to try and go toe-to-toe with a legitimate filmmaker on social media. Of course, there’s no need for the toxic backlash that Gunn has had to face regardless.
As always, stay tuned to ScreenGeek for further developments as we have them. For now, fans are waiting to see the release of James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy – the first film intended to launch the DC Universe.
