In a similar fashion to Zack Snyder‘s Justice League, many fans hoped that David Ayer’s Suicide Squad would be released. Director David Ayer himself has tried to drum up support for such a release for several years now. Unfortunately, however, David Ayer has officially given up on a new Suicide Squad release.
This might be shocking for DC fans that have followed Ayer over the years. After all, Ayer often seemed optimistic that his true vision for the film would someday be seen. Though he now claims that Warner Bros officially has “no interest” in the release.
Additionally, not only has he given up on the “Ayer Cut” of Suicide Squad, but he’s “done with DC.” It looks like fans shouldn’t be expecting any kind of collaboration in the future.
Here’s what Ayer shared:
I’m done with DC. https://t.co/Qnzh8jSO1G

As shared by CBM, he also added several tweets that have since been deleted. “Nothing about the situation feels good,” he shared.
“Studio has no interest in releasing it. It’s time to run and not look back.”
An additional fan urged Ayer to continue supporting the prospect, but he’s officially done:
“Naw I’m good. Don’t need to be walking around with a begging bowl.
“Gonna protect my heart more moving forward,” he concluded with a fist emoji.
Some fans might have hope that James Gunn, who seems to be a supporter of the Ayer Cut, would have helped make it happen. According to Ayer, the choice does not lie with Gunn, but rather the studio’s corporate board. While Gunn does have plenty of control, it doesn’t seem like it’s enough to have a panned movie like Suicide Squad re-finished and re-released with a new cut.
No one is autonomous in Hollywood. A large film will be presented to a green light committee and the CEO and the corporate board. There are many presentations and sign offs. https://t.co/fubP1m3J5p

Cada quien en este negocio lo va a manejar como pueden. A veces es una pelea de navajas. Y pelear cansa. Sigo siendo un chico con ilusiones y sueños a pesar de todo. https://t.co/UjF1hos3yG

It’s certainly an unfortunate situation. But at a time when Warner Bros is preparing to relaunch their brand with the DCU, it makes sense that now might finally be the time to move on from Suicide Squad. Of course, as long as there are David Ayer fans supporting the release of the “Ayer Cut” of Suicide Squad, it could always have a chance.
