The television game show series Jeopardy! has been one of the most popular of its kind for decades. Now that the series has returned in the United Kingdom with a new host, however, viewers have begun to review bomb the program.
As shared below, many viewers have complained about the new run of the show on social media. This comes as the show debuts in the UK for the first time in years. The United Kingdom version of the series last ran from 1995 to 1997 with Paul Ross as the host.
For its newest iteration, however, Stephen Fry has taken over for Jeopardy! on the television network ITV. The series operates much like its American counterpart, unfortunately viewers have been less thrilled about the new iteration.
The first episode of the revival concluded with Mayank Dadheech winning £4,801 (approximately $6,102). With this conclusion, however, users began to negatively respond to the show on social media. One user noted that, while “Stephen Fry is a National Treasure,” they also found that “ITV’s Jeopardy is one of the most excruciating TV programmes” that they’ve ever seen.
Let me be clear.
Stephen Fry is a National Treasure.
Let me also be clear.
ITV’s Jeopardy is one of the most excruciating TV programmes I have ever seen in my life.

It seems as though many viewers simply found the series to be too boring. Here’s another response from a viewer that feels as though they’ve “aged 23 years” while watching the premiere.

Others emphasized that the American series is simply better:
I’m obsessed with the original American #Jeopardy and hate that we don’t get it here in the UK. Was so excited to see it on ITV today but the British version has been a bit of a snooze fest so far by comparison but hoping it’ll pick up soon.

On the bright side, there are some viewers that were satisfied with the new iteration:
#Jeopardy is such a good show and I really hope it does well. It’s such a wonderful alternative to all the crummy quiz shows ITV have commissioned as of late.

I think it’s fair to say watching #Jeopardy, I am now in quizzing heaven!!
Been 27/28 years since the last incarnation was on TV in this country but so delighted to see the show back!!

It’s definitely interesting that so many UK viewers are disappointed with the new revival. Especially when the American series has been such a success over the years. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding ITV’s Jeopardy! as we have them. We’ll have to see if viewers warm up to the series or if it will simply fail to live up to its predecessors.
