Fans of the Netflix series Mindhunter were disappointed when the show stopped at its second season. Though they’ve been hopeful for a third season, time has been unkind. Now, however, Mindhunter actor Holt McCallany has offered a positive update.
Holt McCallany starred in the series as special agent Bill Tench. He’s been involved with its story since the series premiered in 2017. The second season premiered in 2019. As such, it’s been several long years since Netflix stopped the show’s production.
Nevertheless, while speaking with Awards Daily, he did open up about the “unlikely” third season. And, while he has doubts regarding a revival, he does offer some promising news regarding the show.
Here’s what he shared in his update, noting that director David Fincher has “thought about” the heavily-desired Mindhunter revival:
“I’ve heard that David’s thought about it,” McCallany said. “I’m not saying it’s going to come back. But what I am saying is that if it comes back, I’m coming back with it. You can take that to the bank, but it’ll depend on what David wants to do. It’s been a few years now, so it’s probably unlikely, but just even that he would think about it is a hopeful sign.”
McCallany seems quite happy with his work on Mindhunter. Though he’s disappointed that it seems to have ended prematurely, along with the series Lights Out, he’s still grateful for both opportunities. Here’s what he shared on that front:
“Did I want Mindhunter to be canceled after two seasons? Uh, no, but that’s not my decision,” McCallany said. “That’s my friend David’s decision. And if that’s David’s decision, that’s David’s decision. I understand, and I accept, and I move on. I remain grateful, and I mean this sincerely, for the opportunity to have made Lights Out, for the opportunity to have made Mindhunter, even if they didn’t last as long as I might have hoped, I still got to be there, and I’m proud of the work that we did.”
He adds that he’s also hopeful to do another series that will turn out as great as Mindhunter, though he acknowledges that the aforementioned show was truly something special:
“I loved making those shows, and I can only hope that at some point in my career, there’ll be something else that I feel as strongly about as I do about those two television series, because not all series are created equal. Let’s face it. Most of them are pretty forgettable. I don’t think you can say that about Mindhunter.“
As such, we’ll have to see what the future holds. Hopefully one day we can see Mindhunter make a comeback – and Holt McCallany along with it.
