With the entry of the iconic short film Steamboat Willie into the public domain, Mickey Mouse has found himself starring in his own (unofficial) horror movie, Mickey’s Mouse Trap. This low-budget production, directed by Jamie Bailey, is set to give its own unique twist on the beloved cartoon character.
In Mickey’s Mouse Trap, viewers are introduced to Alex, who finds herself working a late shift at an amusement arcade on her 21st birthday. Little does she know, her friends have planned a surprise for her. However, their celebration takes a dark turn when a masked killer dressed as Mickey Mouse decides to play a deadly game with them. Alex must fight to survive the twisted game orchestrated by the notorious killer.
Director Jamie Bailey shared his inspiration behind the film, stating, “We just wanted to have fun with it all. I mean, it’s Steamboat Willie’s Mickey Mouse murdering people. It’s ridiculous. We ran with it and had fun doing it, and I think it shows.”
