One of the most exciting things about being a horror fan is that you can almost always count on a sequel. Franchises like Halloween, Friday the 13th, and A Nightmare on Elm Street paved the way for endless strings of sequels to keep their respective icons alive. Now history is repeating itself with a fan-favorite horror movie set to get a follow-up over a decade later.
In the tradition of those horror films listed above, there were numerous slasher films in the 1980’s. And, while many of these were known for spawning any number of continuations, some remained notable one-offs until the remake era. This included one popular 1982 slasher film that seems to have found more popularity with its remake.
The 1982 slasher film, The House on Sorority Row, was remade in 2009 with the promptly-titled Sorority Row. Now, nearly fifteen years later, it looks like a sequel to Sorority Row is in the works. Also exciting for fans is that the 2009 film’s original writer is seemingly involved.
Screenwriter Josh Stolberg, known for having also written Piranha 3D, Jigsaw, Spiral: From the Book of Saw, and this year’s Saw X, has been teasing Sorority Row 2 on his X account. Stolberg co-wrote the 2009 remake with his writing partner Pete Goldfinger.
It’s unknown if Goldfinger could also be involved with the remake, but giving their collaborations in the past including the previous Sorority Row film, it does seem likely. Here are some of the tweets below that Stolberg has shared so far regarding the alleged project. As you can see, not only is he diving into research, but he’s teased the 2009 horror film’s storyboard artist could return for the sequel as well:
Are you in a #sorority right now? Or have you been in a sorority in the past 10 years or so? Doing some research and would love to speak. Please DM me if you’re interested in helping out. #SororityRow2? 🤫 pic.twitter.com/bzzaXUfk50

How f’n cool is this storyboard from Craig Gilmore from Sorority Row? I love the way headlight seems to really glow off the elbow. Gonna have to bring him in again on the sequel. #SororityRow2 pic.twitter.com/VB6jEuiFfR

Of course it’s the screenwriter who has no idea where the camera is. #SororityRow… 2? pic.twitter.com/PwdSkBXsgS

As such, these are definitely some exciting developments for fans. Especially when fans likely weren’t expecting the 2009 film to receive a continuation. Hopefully we’ll have more details regarding the project soon.
The cast of the 2009 Sorority Row film included Briana Evigan, Leah Pipes, Rumer Willis, Jamie Chung, Margo Harshman, Audrina Patridge, and Carrie Fisher. Though Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger wrote the film, Stewart Hendler directed. It’s unknown if Hendler will return for the sequel.
