The 1998 Jack Frost movie has become something of a modern-day Christmas cult classic. The film, which revolves around Michael Keaton as a father who dies and becomes a snowman, initially bombed in theaters. But now, years later, it looks like a Jack Frost remake with Dwayne Johnson could be in the works.
As shared via insider Daniel Richtman, actor Dwayne Johnson is being eyed for the lead role in a remake of Jack Frost. This wouldn’t be the first time that Johnson has been involved with a reboot of a beloved family film. For starters, he’s become a key part of the Jumanji film franchise.
And, considering how much more iconic the original Jumanji is compared to Jack Frost, it probably wouldn’t be too hard to win audiences over. Of course, it’s worth noting that none of this has been officially confirmed. Hopefully we’ll have more details on that front soon.
On that note, it’s worth noting that there aren’t any writers or directors said to be attached to the alleged project at this time. It’s unknown, then, who could possibly collaborate with Dwayne Johnson if the project were to happen. The original 1998 film was directed by Troy Miller while the screenplay was penned by Mark Steven Johnson, Steve Bloom, Jonathan Roberts, and Jeff Cesario.
As for the lead role, Michael Keaton played the role of the titular Jack Frost. He plays a jazz musician who dies in a car accident. It’s his magic harmonica, however, that allows him to be resurrected as a snowman to spend more time with his son. It’s possible that a new film would have a new direction to explain the magic behind Jack Frost, however, which could be one benefit of a remake.
The iconography of snowmen are largely associated with Christmas, so with that in mind, there is potential in creating a new Jack Frost movie. Especially one that could make much more of a smash at the box office. And, for an actor like Dwayne Johnson, it’s possible that he could have the star power to make it happen. Ultimately, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
