It’s become increasingly popular in recent years for horror films to make the jump to television. Though some of these transitions have been less-than-great, there are some that have been quite positively received. Now one of the most popular horror television series ever is coming to an end – and it’s one that happens to be streaming on Hulu.
This particular series, based on a 2014 horror comedy, connected with viewers in a surprising way. Many fans were uncertain how a television series based on Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi‘s film could live up to its hilarious namesake. As it turns out, however, it did quite well for itself.
In fact, many fans consider FX’s horror comedy series to be just as funny – if not better – than its predecessor. Sadly, as noted via Vulture, the series What We Do In The Shadows is coming to an end with its upcoming sixth season. Fans will no doubt be upset, but it seems as though all good things must come to an end. And for this particular series, it’s clear they don’t want to overstay their welcome.
The fourth season of the series averaged as many as 356,000 viewers per episode. This number dwindled for the show’s fifth season, however, with only 275,000 viewers per episode. Of course, it’s worth noting that these viewers are calculated by those viewing the show on FX. There are presumably many more viewers on Hulu, with many fans having discovered the series via streaming.
In any case, it does look like the audience was shrinking, and FX made the decision to conclude the series with its sixth season. Hopefully fans will receive a proper ending that will live up to the insanity, drama, and humor that’s kept so many viewers coming back for more.
The series, which revolves around a group of vampire roommates, earned ten Emmy Award nominations during its first two seasons. The third season is currently eligible for Emmy consideration and also earned three Critics Choice Award nominations.
