Robert Rodriguez has been involved with some major movies and franchises over the years. He’s been involved with Desperado, Alita: Battle Angel, and the family-friendly Spy Kids films. Of course, he’s also responsible for such hard-hitting horror films as From Dusk till Dawn, and it looks like another cult horror movie of his will be getting the remake treatment.
This particular film has grown in popularity over the decades, especially given its all-star cast. The feature includes the likes of Jordana Brewster, Josh Hartnett, Robert Patrick, Jon Stewart, and Elijah Wood to name just a few.
Furthermore, in addition to Robert Rodriguez as the director, the film had Scream scribe Kevin Williamson as the screenwriter. Now, following the success of 2022’s Scream and 2023’s Scream VI, it looks like history is repeating itself yet again.
According to insider Daniel Richtman, 1998’s horror sci-fi film The Faculty is set to receive a remake. This will no doubt have fans both excited yet anxious to see how the project unfolds. Especially when considering the potential that this cult favorite has so many years later.
The Faculty follows a group of high school youths as they navigate their complicated and emotional lives. Of course, one can make positive comparisons to The Breakfast Club in this regard. The interesting addition is that they become intertwined with an alien infestation ala The Puppet Masters and Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
It’s this unique combination of high schoolers coming to terms with adulthood and losing their humanity to aliens that makes The Faculty such a good film. And, as times continue to change going into 2024, it seems like perfect timing to revisit this formula. Of course, while a sequel would be just as appreciated, there’s still plenty of potential in a remake as well.
Many details regarding the alleged project are being kept under wraps, but Richtman claims that original director Robert Rodriguez will return to produce this remake. Hopefully more information will come to light soon. As for now, this is an interesting announcement, and one that we’ll have to keep an eye on.
