The Diary of a Wimpy Kid franchise has taken a number of different avenues over the years. With books, live-action adaptations, and animated features, there’s a little something for everyone. Unless, of course, you want something for Christmas. It looks like the new Disney Plus special Diary of a Wimpy Kid Christmas: Cabin Fever is facing backlash on social media.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid Christmas: Cabin Fever is the third animated Diary of a Wimpy Kid film from Disney. All three films have so far made their debuts on Disney Plus. As the name suggests, they’re all based on the best-selling book series which was previously adapted into a series of live-action films.
As such, there is a big following for these films about a middle-schooler named Greg who has to endure the day-to-day life of growing up. This particular film, however, revolves around Greg (voiced by Wesley Kimmel) and his attempt to get a video game console for Christmas. It’s an element revolving this very holiday, however, that has many parents upset.
The film openly confirms that Santa Claus does not exist. Greg acknowledges that it’s their parents instead that brings them presents for Christmas. As such, parents are upset that the film seems to “ruin Christmas” by confirming that Santa Claus isn’t real. Furthermore, given the film is rated 6+, there’s no way to filter it out for their kids.
Here are the complaints over Diary of a Wimpy Kid Christmas: Cabin Fever left by upset Disney Plus subscribers:
FAO parents of smallies
Just an fyi…. The new diary of a wimpy kid movie on Disney gives away all the magic of Santa. He goes and finds the presents in the hot press and then at the end it’s the same presents left out from Santa.🥺 It’s rated 6+ 🫣 A lot of very upset kids 💔— Liam Clause 🧑🎄 (@EvertonLiam79) December 14, 2023

it’s honestly hilarious to me that the new diary of a wimpy kid christmas movie on disney+…
what is clearly a *family* film you can watch with your *kids*…
straight up establishes right from the start that santa isn’t real.
gonna be some awkward conversations there.

On the other hand, there are some social media users that feel parents are overreacting:
Diary of a Wimpy Kid takes place in the real world, so it’s time for those parents to get real and shut up. Santa doesn’t show up in the movie for a reason. pic.twitter.com/zcx8hKB7AB
